The Swedish word “Fika” (meaning: coffee break) seems to be becoming the new “hygge” and this word is literally popping up everywhere I read. I feel it’s now haunting me.
When I saw the Fika Oakham A-frame positioned on the footpath on Mill Street, directing me down narrow alleyway, I was totally intrigued. If the sign was not there you may easily miss it. You enter via a little walkway surrounded by plants and other bits and bobs and are greeted by large light and bright setting, decorated with indoor plants and forest prints. Even though the cafe was quite busy on this day, sunny weather meant I could sit in the courtyard and take in the summer rays.
Fika Oakham is a Scandinavian cafe that offers breakfast, brunch, lunch, incredible homemade cakes and the list goes on.
This cafe is engrained by its Nordic roots with their cinnamon rolls always making an appearance amongst the cakes, which I highly reccomend – there is always room for a cinnamon roll!
